“we don’t go in the studio and record songs just for the sake of recording”
We noticed the energy coming from Sheffield based band, One Way as soon as we heard them. The band have been with us for a few months so we decided to check in with them and find out a little more about their experiences.
How did you get to hear of Audio Rokit and what do you like about it?
We first heard about Audio Rokit when it was suggested to us by a friend on another music website. We then decided to create a profile on Audio Rokit to see what makes it so different.
We then took some time and browsed through the website to see what advantages we could benefit from. As artists and I am telling you, Audio Rokit is the best music website that we have come across in years of research.
What Audio Rokit has that any other music website doesn’t have is the fact that they get people that matter to listen to our music.
On the other hand, websites like myspace, facebook, reverbnation etc are only good for your fans to listen to your music. These days music industry is not about what you know; is about who you know. And with Audio Rokit, it helps us musicians get our music to the right ears.
Aside from Audio Rokit, what other methods do you use to get your music heard?
Aside from Audio Rokit, we use other public websites to promote our music. But like I said in the earlier question; all the websites that we have come across are just to get our music out to fans, it will be lucky for someone in the music industry to come across your profile if they have not heard of you.
Before we used this site [Audio Rokit], we use to look on internet for hours every day, trying to find the right links to send our music to, and most of the times, we did not get a reply back. That’s why we have to say a big thank you to you guys because it has helped us jump 5 steps ahead of achieving our goals,
What do you find most challenging about the music industry?
The most challenging thing about the music industry is gettin the right people to listen to your music especially if your an independent artist. Finding the right resources is difficult. This site has made things so much easier and faster for us.
What music are you working on currently (a bit about your musical life)?
At the moment the sound we are working on is a genre we call ”Pop-Hip” (urban pop). By combining urban rap music with commercial pop, allows us to bring a new different sound to the music scene that would satisfy the urban crowd and the pop crowd.
What advice would you give others?
First of all, the mistake that we have noticed most unsigned artists make is the fact that they don’t know that to make it in to the music industry will take more than just good music. You also have to have a good brain to be able to think like a business person and put some work into networking.
By networking, I don’t mean, posting your music on so many people’s facebook profiles everyday! I mean research. The only place you will get the chance to meet important people in the music industry is on the internet, no where else.
Sometimes research can be more important than recording music or even performing. Because you could be recording music every day and getting feed back from people round you, then when you look at yourself few years down the line, you will still be in the same position and those people that were giving you good feed back, will be the first people to laugh at you.
What we do that’s different to other artists here in Sheffield, we don’t go in the studio and record songs just for the sake of recording to put a mixtape out! Every song we record has a reason to why we are working on the song. That is why we put 100% in every one of our songs because we release all of them as singles first, then when it comes to a point where we got enough songs for a mix tape, then we release the mixtape.
Other advice i would give is, persevere and you will get sum where. Don’t let any bad comments or disappointments change your mind. Because you will meet people that will give you false hope and that’s something every artist goes through. But giving up should be the last option because when you feel like giving up after being knocked down, that’s when you got to push harder cause that’s the point where your nearly on the big break. And believe me when I say that!
