People have different tollerence levels to rejection, but rejection is a part of any musicians journey to success, it’s inescapable.
The ability to deal with (and harness) rejection is almost as important as learning to play your instrument, it’s something that almost all successful people have learned to deal with. In fact, history tells us that talent alone is not always enough.
It takes a level of tenacity to cope with sustained periods of rejection, this ability is what I call the engine of success.
Even if your music is undeniably amazing, you could still face repeated rejection by the industry. It’s important to understand that it’s not a simple case of not being good enough, there are, in fact, a number of possible reasons why your music might be rejected (or overlooked).

My biggest success as a songwriter came from a song that was doing the rounds for almost 3 years! It took that long before the right publishers spotted it and decided to give it a shot. I lost count of how many times that song was rejected but I can laugh about it now!
The thing is, when we create a song, we are (in many ways) creating an extension of ourselves, of our moods and emotions. It is because of this that we find it very hard to ‘disconnect’ and accept rejection as readily as we would like.
